Frequently Asked Questions

There is no strict dress code for lessons, we recommend wearing something that feels comfortable and allows movement. Most beginners will not have dance shoes so we advise on wearing a sensible, non-marking shoe that won’t be difficult to dance in, that means no stilettos for the ladies please.
Yes, unless you are attending a fitness or solo class of course.
The only age restriction is that you must be over 18 to attend evening classes. Our classes are popular with people in their 20’s through to 70’s so don’t be afraid to have a go.
Most people are nervous before their first class, but don’t worry it won’t last long. Everybody will be in the same position – a complete beginner so you won’t be the odd one out. We will meet you on arrival to greet you and let you know where you are going. We make sure that you enjoy yourself with our friendly relaxed atmosphere, no pressure, just a good time.
You won’t be charged for missed classes if you class runs on a PAYG basis. We understand that it’s difficult to attend every lesson over a long course which is why we offer private catch up lessons. Speak to your teacher before or after the class to arrange a lesson if you are feeling behind or worried.
Feel free to contact us at any time. Call us or send an email and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Ella

Dance Teacher
Ella started dancing from a young age at Drapers, and competed in Ballroom and Latin American before being drawn to freestyle and street. Having a real family connection to the school as we have taught her parents and all her siblings, it’s just meant to be that she’s our head of freestyle nowadays! But don’t be deceived, she’ll be just as quick to fix your cha cha – and definitely one of our all rounders.

Scott

Manager
Respected and renowned in the world of Ballroom, Scott has a knack of putting people at ease with his friendly approach. He understands the need to alter his teaching approach for different ability levels, and enjoys taking a beginner class just as much as coaching high level competitive dancers. Laughter is a common sound to come from his classes, but it’s not all fun and games – Scott’s methodical approach ensures his pupils get through all the steps.

Melissa

Dance Teacher
Melissa also learnt to dance at Drapers from a young age. Starting out as a quiet child in classes she soon shone as a very capable young dancer. Put together years of training with a great mind for teaching and a lovely way with people and Melissa has spent the last few years proving herself as one of the most popular teachers on our team! Approachable, relaxed and so very patient, Melissa will be on hand to save the day (or dance).

Alysia has danced all her life and still actively trains and competes with dance partner Vaclav.
